The Charles A. Cannon Heart Center provides early detection and constant monitoring for patients at risk for or diagnosed with heart conditions. Stress testing can indicate one's risk of heart disease, display to a high risk patient how blocked his/her arteries are, evaluate the success of a cardiac procedure, and determine further treatments or rehabilitation for cardiac patients. Stress testing is available in two forms, the echocardiogram and nuclear medicine stress test. For both tests, nurses administer medicine to speed up, or stress the heart. Taking ultrasound images, EKG's or camera images produced with the aid of nuclear medicine, a cardiologist can then evaluates images to identify parts of the heart not receiving enough blood and oxygen.
